This is the only one we have. Every flute we make comes out different — the grain, the color, the way the light catches it — and none of the others will look like this one. When it's gone, it's gone.

G sits low and round. It's a grounding key, the kind of voice that slows a room down rather than filling it, and it carries beautifully outdoors. Good for meditation, sound healing work, breathwork, or playing alone at the end of a long day.

Plays the minor pentatonic scale, so every note belongs — you can't play a wrong one. That's what makes these forgiving: a complete beginner can pick this up and get a clean, full note on the first try, then wander into something that sounds like music without knowing a thing about theory.

Walnut is a deep chocolate brown with fine speckled grain that warms toward red in the light. The bird is tigerwood — banded honey gold and dark brown — so it stands bright against the darker body, bound with hand-wrapped leather.

The inside matters too

Most of the work on a flute is on the inside, where nobody sees it. The bore and sound chamber are fire-treated first — heat drawn through the inside of the wood, which hardens the surface and closes down the open grain. Then it's burnished smooth by hand, and melted beeswax is worked in and burnished again.

All of that does three things. It seals the wood against the moisture your breath puts into the flute every time you play. It gives the air a smooth, hard surface to move across instead of catching on raw grain. And it makes the note come out cleaner and fuller, with more body behind it.

It's slow work, and it's the reason these hold their voice over years instead of going rough and breathy.

How these are made

Most of our flutes are made out in the wild, not in a shop. We work where we're camped, and the frequency of that place goes into the wood: the mountains, the deserts, the quiet. We forage our wood when we can, and never cut a living tree — only what's already down. When we're somewhere the wood isn't there to be found, we buy it.
