A handcrafted drone flute in Western cedar — two flutes joined side by side and played as one.

This is the only one we have right now. Every flute we make comes out different, and none of the others will look like this one.

One side has the five finger holes. The other has none, so it holds a steady A underneath everything you play. That's the whole idea of a drone flute — one breath, two voices. The held note sits below your melody and fills a room the way two players would, and it's what gives these that deep humming quality you feel as much as hear.

Both sides are built exactly the same way, from the same wood, so they sit together in tune. If you already play a single flute, you'll be playing this one in about five minutes — the fingering doesn't change, you just get more sound out of it.

Tuned to 432 Hz on the minor pentatonic scale. Every note belongs — you can't play a wrong one, which makes these forgiving enough that a complete beginner can get a clean, full note on the first try.

Western cedar with a walnut bird and hand-wrapped leather binding. The grain across the head runs in those tight arched bands cedar is known for.

How these are made

Most of our flutes are made out in the wild, not in a shop. We work where we're camped, and the frequency of that place goes into the wood: the mountains, the deserts, the quiet. We forage our wood when we can, and never cut a living tree — only what's already down. When we're somewhere the wood isn't there to be found, we buy it.

No flute leaves here until it sounds right. Every single one is played before it ships.
